Who are you and where are you from? Have your surroundings shaped you in a creative sense, if so, in what way?
My name is Eganté and I am a musician, vocalist, songwriter, and recording artist from the southside of Atlanta (Clayton County.)
Absolutely. Coming from the southside, there was a large trap presence. Gucci Mane, Future, and Bankroll Fresh (Rest in Peace) were artists that were played daily. Rich Kidz and Travis Porter were played at school pep rallies a lot. At the same time, my parents would play artists that ranged from D’Angelo, Earth Wind & Fire, and Alicia Keys. It honestly just depends on the day. Once I started making music I would listen to artists from multiple genres and study melodies, cadences, beat patterns, and flows. Once I applied to these into lyrics I just record and go crazy.
What was your favorite cartoon show growing up?
Ben 10 was hands down my favorite. The plot, character development, graphics, and climax throughout each episode was perfect. Couldn’t ask for a better show.
Can you explain to us what exactly is “Percy Park Worldwide?”
Percy Park Worldwide (Portrayal of Emotions in our Cultured Youth) is a conglomerate that is comprised of different creative entities. Some of which include artist development/ management, A&R, production, publishing, quality control, film, and gaming. We have been working hard behind the scenes with musicians such as Keezus Picasso and actors such as Myles Truitt. All that I can say for now is to keep your eyes peeled and ears open for what’s to come.
What’s your favorite song at the moment?
I don’t think that I have ever had a favorite song. A few of my favorite songs right now would be Riri by Aminé, Moon Walking by Keezus Picasso, Starved With Me by Lil CJ Kasino, UNI by Yung Kayo, False Direction by Dayglow, Better Days by Surf, On The Road by Young Rog, and Never Stop by Future.
What keeps you going? How you doing mentally?
I ask myself a lot about what am I living for. I think the best answer to that would just be life. I live for life. I live for music. I live for my family and loved ones. I know that a lot of people depend on me. So if I was to give up now what would that leave for my people and supporters. At the end of the day, I know that God got me. But I’m doing alright mentally. Depression can take you out of your mood sometimes but you just have to power through it.
I see that you currently only have 4 singles out (that stretch out through 2 years), how would you best describe the style in music you’re aiming towards? Anything in the works as of now? Any future projects or collabs?
The only way I can see myself describing the music that I make is me. Of course, I have influence from Atlanta and other mediums, but I’m just trying my best to carve out my own lane and get more of a buzz around the city. Then work outwards. Throughout the 3 years of making music, I’ve been able to practice and apply different ideas. I have been working with my best friend, Keezus Picasso, with songwriting and producing. So we may have a few collabs in the store. Before the end of 2020, I’ll have a single or two out of the vault. Definitely a single with my boy Tysins as well. I would like to work with Lewis Grant, Young Nudy, and Steve Lacy at some point.
What are 3 things you can’t live without?
I can’t live without my Birkenstocks. Easily the most reliable and comfortable shoe, period. Can’t live without my prescription glasses and laptop. A large majority of work is done with both of these items. Can’t have one without the other. An honorable mention is my passport for when I travel abroad.
Where do you see yourself this time next year?
By this time next year, I see myself 100 times better than the previous year. This includes a large enough catalog, presence in the city, and supporters to be able to release a project. Whether it’s an EP, mixtape, collab project with another artist, or my first album. I do see myself working with Aminé next year. I am also working on a big project that I have yet to announce. It will have guest appearances from Lil Bird, Young Rog, and others.
