Catching Up With notypeofname

Catching Up With notypeofname

Where are you from? Have your surroundings shaped you in a creative sense, and in what way?

I’m from LA, and hell yeah, I mean, it’s LA. my music is derived from my life experiences, my memories, my upbringing, lessons learned, the people around me, the type of shit I got into. All of that plays a big role in my creativity, most def.

What’s your background like?

I’m that guy who you thought would be a lawyer or some shit cause I always did well in school, maintained a high GPA, started college, but I dropped out and hit the trap. My boy Elvis foretold this shit in middle school though, shit’s wild.

Who are your top 5 favorite artists?

It’s kinda hard to narrow down my favorites to a top 5, but here’s a few I feel are noteworthy and I’ll tell you why too:

Three6Mafia: I feel like triple 6 touches almost everything I enjoy about music. It’s turnt, it’s menacing, it’s motivational, it’s powerful.

2 Chainz: I just love his energy and his outlook on life. He’s inspirational and motivational, his music is hella turnt and that’s the shit I fuck with. I like music that makes me wanna jump and turn up.

Rob Zombie: There is not a single song that I don’t like by this band, that includes White Zombie too. The sound, vibe, and energy they put out are dark as fuck, that eerie, slasher film type vibes.

Rage Against the Machine: I grew up listening to this band on KROQ and had the amazing opportunity to see them live at the Palladium back in 2011. These motherfuckers are revolutionary, they never played by anyone’s rules or expectations, they all just do things their own way, and I find that dope as fuck.

A$AP Ferg: I love Ferg’s energy man, same reason I like 2 Chainz so much. I’m telling you, I love feeling turnt and Ferg brings that.

What made you start making music?

I started off behind the scenes, filming music videos, doing photo shoots with other artists. Being around them, we’d freestyle for fun, and I realized that I prefer writing a whole lot more.

Who are your biggest influences?

Classic Punk, my “top 5 artists” I previously mentioned… the 90s.. some of my peers…

What’s your favorite song at the moment?

I don’t really have one, but lately, I’ve had “No Thoughts for Thots” by imtrashaf stuck in my head and on repeat for a couple weeks [laughs] that shit is so smooth and wavy. I just really relate to that hook, I felt that shit and fuck with it hard. Then there’s the legend of Zelda tune in it that I also fuck with… it’s just a dope song, go check it out. Imtrashaf is a goat lowkey.

What keeps you going? How you doing mentally?

Knowing that at any point, my shit’ll just blow up. My mental is in good shape. I keep that shit sharp and polished. I’m a pretty levelheaded and positive person

How would you describe your style?

I don’t even have words for it. I still don’t know how to properly label my music under a genre. You tell me. I’ll probably break out that box anyway.

What do you hope to accomplish in 2019?

I’d like to have my first performance by the end of summer, merch for sale, and 15-20 solid songs out by the end of the year.
