Catching Up With Lil Suburbia

Catching Up With Lil Suburbia

Where are you from? Have your surroundings shaped you in a creative sense, and in what way?

I’m from Athens, Greece. Yeah, my surroundings definitely influenced me growing up, I was around lots of old-school rap and rock music since I was in middle school, so I’d say that it played a huge role into defining what I am today.

What’s your background like?

I’m 21 and I’m a psychology student right now, currently in the 4th year. I hope to graduate soon. Parallel to my classes and recording new songs every day, I can’t find enough time tbh. Wish I could be in a studio all day and night and just create.

Who are your top 5 favorite artists?

Top 5 favourite artists of all time have to be Mac Miller (RIP), Kanye, The Fray, Green Day, Biggie.

What made you start making music?

I started making music back in high-school when I was around 14. Initially, I felt like something was missing. I’ve always done art, painting, designing, freestyling, etc. But I never had the confidence to write something and record it. Music basically saved my life and my mental health. For those 3-4 hours I write and record every time, I feel like everything is okay, even if it’s not.

Who are your biggest influences?

Biggest influences would definitely be Mac Miller, Drake, The Killers, Lil Uzi Vert, blink.

What’s your favorite song at the moment?

My fav song atm has to be Richard Millie Plan from Gunna. The whole album slaps.

What keeps you going? How you doing mentally?

Basically music and the people I love. If I didn’t have these things I’d be dead. If I didn’t feel the need to get it all out and write little stories in my songs, I don’t know what I would do honestly.

How would you describe your style?

I’d describe it as alternative, lol. I don’t like the term “emo rap”. Maybe punk trap is better. I’d say alternative with elements of rock, punk, and trap. I think that a lot of people have appropriated the sound to create fake personas of people that act “sad” or “depressed” and I don’t want to be categorized with these people. I’m gearing up to drop lotta stuff within 2019, very soon, that will showcase why I’m different from the rest.

What do you hope to accomplish in 2019?

I hope to get my music out there and who I am as a person and meet new people that feel the same way. Make new friends, make songs and connect with people. Music has always been my one and only dream in life, so I really wanna get out there this year and connect with people who will feel my music.
